3.2. Smyrna: [Mesianic Jews] (Rev.2:8-11)
The message to this kehila describes the 'Jews' who accept the Messiah but do not use His true Name, nor the Name of the Father, either because they have false names and titles (Jesus / Yeshua | Jehovah / God / Lord) or for thinking that they should not be used, which is why they are replaced by titles such as HaShem (The Name) and Adonai (Sovereigns). That is why they are rich despite living in spiritual poverty, having the Name but not invoking it, as someone who owns gold but refuses to use it just to not lose it, or avoids helping others to not get rid of his money. This also indicates that they are spiritually poor, not knowing the true Elohim and Savior, although they may have abundant material wealth.
Revelation 2:8-11 [Mercury] (Yom Kippur)
“And to the angel of the congregation in Smyrna [“Myrrh”] write, ‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” ’
Key points about Smyrna:
- They have Works.
- They have suffered and are about to go through the Tribulation.
- They are in Poverty (Literal and Spiritual, for not using the Name that enriches).
- There are false Yahudim among them, called Jews (Kazhar / Edomites).
- Some will be imprison during the Tribulation (The 2 Witnesses for 10 days).
- He who overcomes will be given eternal life when resurrected.
3.2.1. Meaning of Smyrna: “Myrrh”
The word Smyrna means "Myrrh", which is an aromatic substance used in ancient times to embalm the dead (Jn. 19:39) and as an anesthetic for the dying or condemned to death, when mixed with wine (Mr.15:23 ); which is why it was among the gifts that the wise men of the east gave to Yahushua (Mt.2:11), since it represents the suffering that he would experience when he was sacrificed. This confirms that those who belong to the doctrine of Smyrna will have to die in tribulation, for not accepting the true Names, but those who have been justified through faith and keep the commandments, will enter the kingdom when they are resurrected. For this reason, Yahweh mentions in the letter to Smyrna, that He was dead and resurrected, because even those who overcome from this congregation will have to be faithful and persevere until they die, and then be resurrected upon entering the Kingdom of Yahweh, as His people.
3.2.2. Luminary: Mercury
In the beginning of the message to this congregation, Yahweh declares to be the First and the Last, which means, among other things, that his doctrine does not change, just as Yahweh does not change (Mal.3:6); so that those who belong to this kehila will not be fooled by the False Messiah, whom they call "Antichrist", who will appear claiming to be the true anointed one prophesied in Scripture, yet he will not adhere to it, instead he will end up abolishing it through a completely false interpretation, for he is the man of lawlessness (2Ts.2:3). This Christ that the world will accept will be a combination of three entities: the body of Samael, the Spirit of Heilel (Lucifer) and the Soul of Azazel (Lev.16:8). The latter is the one who represents the title “The Abomination of Desolation” (Dn.11:31); Heilel as his elohim, his guide, his ideal, will and vanity; while Samael his push, his strength, his ego, pride and desire. It should be known that in Hebrew, "Satan" means "Adversary", while "Devil" in Greek means "Accuser"; therefore, those are titles that can describe any evil spirit, demon or fallen angel, who stands as an enemy against man; which means that when the Scripture refers to Satan, it does not speak specifically of a single entity, but of any creature that serves or fulfills the will of any of the three fallen angels already mentioned.
The Romans worshiped Azazel as Mercury, the Greeks as Hermes, the messenger of the gods, since according to the Book of Janók ("Enoch"), this Malak descended in the time of Noach ("Noah") to reveal hidden knowledge to mankind, teaching men how to make weapons of war to multiply deaths and to women he showed how to mix certain plants to carry out spells and cosmetics to multiply lust. For these reasons, Yahweh put upon him all the sin of history and will be condemned in the Last Judgment, so he will first try to deceive the entire world, to accompany him in his punishment (1Enoch 8:1-3, 9:6, 10:4-9, 13:1-3). This false elohim was revered as the god of shepherds, speakers, the cunning of merchants, thieves and liars; characteristics that aptly describe the False Messiah, who is the Worthless Shepherd (Zc.11:17), who inspires cunning in all those false pastors who deceive entire churches with their oratory, only to make money, being simply merchants of faith, turning religion into a business, which characterizes the prosperity doctrine and of course the Vatican, which is plagued with gold, precious stones and pearls (Rev.18:16). In addition, the False Messiah is the thief who does not enter the sheepfold by the door (Jn.10:1), to steal and destroy (Jn.10:10), he is the Deception (Dn.8:25) and the Lie (Rm.1:25, 2Ts.2:11, Jn.8:4), since Yahushua is the Truth (Jn.14:6).
In a positive spiritual sense, the Planet Mercury represents the Prophet, a title that comes from the Greek "Profetes" (G4396), which in turn comes from the Hebrew “Navi” (נביא), and it means "Spokesman" (H5030) or ‘he who reveals what is hidden', since the Prophet is the person sent by Yahweh to talk to the people; therefore, this refers to the Two Witnesses of the end times, specifically to the Witness like Moshe (Moses), who is called "the Prophet" throughout Scriptures. This Navi is the second manifestation of Yahweh, the Last, as he identifies himself when he begins his message to Smyrna, so as not to be confused with the False Messiah Azazel, the Fallen Angel represented by Mercury, since Yahushua himself, who in his 1st manifestation came as the Door (Jn.10:7-9), said that during his 2nd manifestation he would come as the Good Shepherd (Jn.10:11-17), at which time he would present himself as a Thief in the Night (Rev.16:15), with the wisdom of the Serpent and the innocence of the Dove (Mt.10:16). Likewise, just as the First came as the Word, the Last would come as the Voice; that is, the official Spokesman of Yahweh and Yahushua, so he is the Voice like a Trumpet, which Yahuchanan heard upon receiving the Revelation.
3.2.3. Mirror in the Scripture:
In the pages of the Book of Acts there is a simple and clear reflection of what symbolizes the light of this kehila, since it tells a story in which certain pagan Gentiles, after observing the healing power of Yahweh through the Apostle Paulus, on a person who was a cripple from birth, decides to worship Paulus and BarNabi, thinking they were Mercury and Jupiter respectively. In this context, Paulus ("Paul") represents the "Prophet like Moshe," the 2nd Manifestation of Mashiach, so it is not surprising that he was called Mercury, while BarNabi, his companion, represents the Witness as EliYahu, who represents a spiritual son of the Ultimate, symbolized by the name "BarNabi", which means "Son of the Prophet." All this coupled with the fact that EliYahu repeatedly lowered fire from the sky (1Ki.18:36-40, 2Ki.1:10-12), just as Jupiter (Zeus) is called the god of lightning.
And in Lystra [Redention] a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. This man heard Paulus [Small] speaking. Paulus, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And he leaped and walked. Now when the people saw what Paulus had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian [Wolf Land] language, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” And BarNabi [Son of the Prophet] they called Zeus [Jupiter], and Paulus [Small], Hermes [Mercury], because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, intending to sacrifice with the multitudes.
But when the apostles BarNabi and Paulus heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living Mighty One, who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” And with these sayings they could scarcely restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.
Then Jews from Antioch [Driven Against] and Iconium [Idol] came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paulus and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with BarNabi to Derbe [Skin Cover].
In these verses the name of the cripple is not mentioned, but only the name of his city (Lystra), due to its meaning, in order to make reference to the time of the Redemption, as the moment of the fulfillment of the mirror that is revealed through the events described. The inhabitants of this city spoke the Lycaonian language, which according to the Concordance means “Wolf Land”, which indicates that they used their words to cause harm, in addition to the fact that Paulus and BarNabi were at that time as sheep among wolves, as will happen when the 2 Witnesses appear in this world. By identifying these people as wolves, we also understand the reason why they go from one extreme to the other in error, by first thinking of worshipping them as idols and eventually stoning Paulus to the point of believing him dead.
It is significant how the priest of Zeus (Jupiter) brings oxen to sacrifice to his false-elohim, since the Witness like Moshe is a descendant of Yahusef (“Joseph”), who is compared to a Ox and symbolizes the ox sacrificed for atonement during Yom Kippur, which is the Assembly that is connected with this Kehila. In addition to the oxen, which allude to the sacrifice of the Last, they also brought garlands for the doors, a tradition still practiced by those who celebrate the pagan holiday called “Christmas,” which reveals that they are used for the worship of the false-elohim and not of Yahweh or His Son.
After Paulus testifies to the truth, the Jews of Antioch and Iconium appear, names that mean “Driven Against” and “idol,” which is exactly what these Jews came to do, by behaving as idolaters of lies and urging the Gentiles to be against what Paulus preached. In this way, they came to act as the Pharisees with Yahushua and as the priests of this time with the Witnesses, which is why they ended up stoning the Apostle until they thought he was dead. However, in the same way that Paulus rose before the disciples in the story, the Witnesses, after being killed, will rise and appear before the Chosen, since immediately Paulus and BarNabi decided to go to the land of Derbe, which means “Skin Cover” and refers to the new body that they will receive at the resurrection.
3.2.4. Assembly: Yom Kippur (“Day Atonement”)
The congregation of Smyrna (Myrrh) represents the Assembly of Yom Kippur, which is celebrated 10 days after Yom Teruah (Day of Trumpets), the convocation symbolized by the previous congregation, so Yahweh specifically states that some will go through Tribulation upon being thrown in prison for 10 days, which hints to the time that the Witnesses will be imprisoned, before dying in Yom Kippur. This will happen as the fulfillment of one of the shadows found in the Book of Yasher (Jos.10:13, Sam.1:18), specifically when Nimrod imprisoned Abraham for 10 days, before throwing him into a fire that could not consume him, since Yahweh protected him. This event will be similar to the moment when the 2nd Beast makes fire come down from heaven to kill the 2 Witnesses, who will be resurrected 3.5 days later, as if the fire had not caused the expected damage.
As we will see in more detail, the Last receives two portions, as the firstborn, since it has two facets or mantles and is therefore represented by two patriarchs, Abraham and Yaakov, who are examples of parents. On the one hand, Yaakov is the father of the 12 Tribes of Yisrael, while Abraham is the father of faith, in addition to his name meaning "Father of Nations," which alludes to the fact that the Last will rule over the Nations with a rod of iron and will be King over the 12 tribes of Yisrael, as the Branch of David. In addition to their position as parents, both Abraham and Yaakov received a new name after the covenant and obtained the promise of being blessed, firstly Abram ("Exalted Father") was renamed Abraham (Gen. 17: 4-6), while Yaakov ("Supplanter"), after fighting elohim, received the name Yisrael (“He who contends with Elohim" / "Prince of Elohim" / “He who will reign as Elohim"). (Gen. 32:28)
Everything indicates that it will be at the feast of Yom Kippur, which is the 10th of the 7th month, the moment when the 2 Witnesses will be sacrificed, which is represented by the name of this congregation, which means Myrrh, a substance that is also used as incense and offered through fire, characteristics that connect with the way in which the Witnesses will die, in addition to their resurrection three and a half days later, which is why Mashiach also mentions in the letter the fact that he was dead and resurrected, to relate it to what the Witnesses will go through.
In the same way that Mercury represents the Prophet like Moshe in a positive sense and Azazel in a negative sense, in Yom Kippur two male-goats were brought to the Temple, for which lots were cast, in order to decide which one would be offered to Yahweh and which one would be released in the wilderness for Azazel (Lev.16: 6-11). The first was sacrificed for the sins of the people, while the other would absorb all the guilt and be sent to the desert to take all iniquity away, an event that was fulfilled during the 1st manifestation of Mashiach, when Pilate offered to release one of two prisoners, Yahushua (Yahweh Saves) the Son of the Almighty Father or BarAbba Yeshua (“Son of the Father of Salvation”), who represented the False-Messiah, Azazel (Mt.27:15-31, Mr.15:6-20, Lk.23:17-25, Jn.18:40). The people preferred BarAbba and he was released, in the same way that the male goat of Azazel was sent to the desert, to show how the world would end up choosing the False-Messiah.
The last seven years are divided into two halves of three and a half years: the Tribulation will happen during the 1st half, while the Great Tribulation will start at the beginning of the 2nd half. This is revealed in the message to this congregation, which is told that it will have to go through Tribulation, a very different idea than what most of those who preach the Christian Rapture believe; in addition to referring to the Tribulation that the 2 Witnesses will experience while being imprisoned for 10 days, at the end of which they will be killed by the Beast. It is then from the resurrection of the Witnesses, that the Great Tribulation will begin, in which the Many will die.
3.2.5. Doctrine: “Messianic Jew”
Among the messages to the 7 Kehilot of the Messiah, only the one in Smyrna and Philadelphia mentions the False Yahudim, those "who claim to be Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan," so these two Kehilot are directly connected to each other, as can also be seen in the Menorah, where Smyrna is the second and Philadelphia is the penultimate. In addition, this symbolizes the two main assemblies that still need to be fulfilled, Yom Kippur and Shemini Atzéret, which is when the death of the 2 Witnesses and the Harvest of the Chosen will happen. The other five congregations are mainly composed of Gentiles who have come to believe in the death and resurrection of the Messiah, while both Smyrna and Philadelphia are formed by the true Yisraelim (Yahudim). It is for this reason that Yahweh mentions the Jews as a problem that these congregations have had to face, since it has been the False Yahudim who have entered as wolves among sheep to teach false doctrines and introduce traditions and commandments of men, with the aim of subjecting believers to the yoke of the law and not of the favor, the letter instead of the spirit, which was what Yahushua came to reveal and give to believers (Mt.15:1-9, Mr.7:6-13, Rm.5:20-21, 6:14, Cl.2:8, 2:20-23, 2Co.3:5-6, Tit.1:13-16).
On the other hand, it is the Jews and not the Yahudim, who have taken the place of the chosen people before the world and are in control of the land of Yisrael, which clearly does not belong to them. It is for these reasons, that Smyrna represents the Messianic Jews, since it refers to those who seek their Hebrew roots, but are lost in the letter and the law (Rm.8:2). For the most part they are more interested in their genetical identity and "Jewish" flesh, than in truly knowing Yahweh and his Son, in order to serve correctly. The above is added to the fact that these two congregations, Smyrna and Philadelphia, are composed of true Yahudim and are connect on the Menorah, in addition to representing the main assemblies that are still to be fulfilled. It is also interesting to note that these congregations are represented by Mercury and Jupiter respectively, which are the same luminaries mentioned in the mirror of the Book of Acts, in which Paulus and BarNabi symbolize the 2 Witnesses, who are mainly connected with these 2 Kehilot.
A final detail, regarding the believers of this congregation, is that those who call themselves "Messianic Jews" often avoid using the name of Yahweh, because they follow customs of Pharisees and Masoretics. In addition, they use a wrong name to refer to the Messiah, by calling him Yeshua, which comes from Yeshu, the acronym for the strongest Jewish curse, which is pronounced “Yemakj Shemo UeZikhro” (ימח שמו וזכרו) and means “May His Name and the Memory of him be erased.” This curse was originally used by those who did not believe in Yahushua HaMashiach, so they tried to get rid of his true Name and infiltrated the kehila to teach a false Testimony. These changed the original teaching of the Messiah to doctrines of demons (1Tim.4:1), and in this way they succeeded in replacing the true Faith (1Jn.3:23, Jm.1:27) with various pagan traditions, practices and beliefs, that are nothing but vanity; a simple illusion to deceive the heart (Jr.17:9).
